Title Picture of a Döner Kebab Store with Name Best Döner in Zürich

The best Döner Kebab in Zurich

As a passionate döner kebab enthusiast (most of my friends would call me too passionate), I’ve sampled hundreds of Döner Shops, but two places in Zurich have particularly captured my heart: “mit&ohne kebab” and “Ayverdis in Oerlikon.”

Each offers a unique taste experience and Döner for Connoisseurs.

Here is what I like most about them, and what you can expect if you try them yourself.

I can’t really say which one is the best, I like them both equally for different (and the same) reasons.

mit&ohne kebab

This is pretty much the go to place, interestingly it’s one of the last ones I’ve tried, having gone without “mit&ohne kebab” for so long, I don’t know why I resisted the wisdom of the crowd and have not tried the “best kebab in Zurich” sooner.

The shop’s name is a charming play on words for kebab aficionados, referencing the typical question, “With or without spice?”, i.e. “mit oder ohne scharf?”

What I love most about mit&ohne’s Döner is the bread. It is always freshly baked, offering a perfect blend of softness and crispiness that is rare to find. I think one would do fine with just the “Brot mit Sauce,” and I have been tempted to take one of these childhood dishes with me.

They also have a great homemade Cocktail Sauce. A lot of love and care goes into the preparation of the food.

The shop’s philosophy of doing everything by hand and with a lot of love is reflected in every bite. It’s not just the food that delights, but also the warm and positive atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re among friends. The modern bistro look of the shop provides the perfect stage for the taste experience and invites you to linger.

However, it’s important to note that there were reports last month about bacteria being detected in their kebabs. As a customer, one should be aware of this information. However, I want to emphasize that I have personally never had a bad experience regarding the quality or hygiene at “mit&ohne Kebab”. The food was fresh and of high quality every time I have eaten there. Despite the reports, I still feel comfortable there.

Ayverdis in Oerlikon

Discovering Ayverdis in Oerlikon was like uncovering a hidden gem in the world of kebab cuisine. (Thanks, Fis, my buddy for introducing me!).

This isn’t just any kebab shop; it’s a place where quality, luxury, and a heartwarming backstory converge to create an extraordinary dining experience.

The story of the Ayverdi family, Kurdish refugees who made their way to Switzerland, is inspiring and deeply ingrained in the essence of their restaurant. Their journey from seeking asylum to establishing one of Zurich’s most talked-about kebab places is a testament to their resilience and passion. This background adds depth, authenticity, and character to the place that you see shine through when aware of it.

Anyway, the most important is the Döner Kebabs. And Ayverdis takes kebabs to a whole new level. Their gourmet kebabs, including options with truffle and burrata, are a delight for the taste buds. And for those looking for an ultra-luxurious experience, their Japanese Wagyu-Beef kebab is a culinary masterpiece. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than your average kebab joint. Still, the quality and uniqueness of the flavors justify every franc.

The atmosphere at Ayverdis in Oerlikon is just as impressive as their food. The staff is super friendly, contributing to a welcoming and warm environment. It is a cool blend of modern, chic Imbiss and a homey feel.

I’ve only enjoyed visiting their Oerlikon location, so I can’t compare it to their other locations. But if they maintain the same standards of quality and hospitality, they’re sure to offer a similarly exceptional experience.

In conclusion, Ayverdis is more than just a kebab shop; it’s a culinary journey that celebrates quality, heritage, and the power of a dream. While it might be pricier than your typical kebab outlet, the experience, from the exquisite flavors to the friendly service, makes it absolutely worth it.
