Living here in the past few years and being a morning person even on the weekends, I’ve had the delightful opportunity to explore some of Zurich’s best brunch spots.
In this post I’d like to share my favorite places to brunch on the Limmat.
The Ale House – My Go-To Spot
Just across from the CS Department ETH Zurich, where I spend most of my time, is The Ale House, a place almost like a second home now.
It’s not just its proximity to my office that makes it special; it’s the staff, the drinks, and, on the weekends, it’s the tasty brunch menu that has me returning time and again.
Their Eggs Royale on a toasted bagel, accompanied by roasted baby potatoes and cherry tomatoes, is a perfect start to any Sunday. And if you’re a coffee lover (slash addict) like me, you can’t miss out on Desta’s Coffee.
The ambiance, characterized by friendly staff and a terrace that’s a blessing on sunny days, makes The Ale House an unbeatable choice for brunch enthusiasts.
Fork & Bottle – A Farm-to-Table Experience
Nestled on the edge of Zurich, Fork & Bottle offers a unique escape with its farm-to-table concept and one of the city’s largest beer gardens.
Their weekend brunch menu is a testament to their commitment to local sourcing and creativity in the kitchen.
The Blueberry Pancakes and the Honey Bacon Benedict are my personal favorites, offering a taste of home with a gourmet twist. The welcoming atmosphere for families, complete with a dedicated kids’ menu and play areas, makes this spot a gem for weekend family outings. Their commitment to friendly service and the relaxed country setting provides a brunch experience that feels both luxurious and laid-back.
Babu’s Bakery & Coffeehouse – A Cozy Retreat
Babu’s, located at Löwenstrasse, is probably one of the most popular spots in Zurich for brunch.
Yet despite often being quite busy, it’s super cozy. It’s a place where time slows down, allowing you to savor every bite of their homemade offerings. From the hearty breakfast plates to the delectable Egg Benedict and the vegan Portobello Mushroom Toast, Babu’s has mastered the art of brunch. Their coffee, sourced from the Stoll roastery, perfectly accompanies most baked dishes.
The warm and welcoming atmosphere, highlighted by exceptional service (shoutout to Ian!), makes Babu’s a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a leisurely brunch in the heart of Zurich.
Bank Zurich – A Modern Classic
A bit further from my usual ETH bubble, I already wrote about Bank Zurich in my favorite breakfast places, and naturally, I also come here for brunch. It’s cozy and vibrant at the same time, and the vibe is perfect for a slow but firm start into sunday.
Their brunch menu is a little smaller than that of other places, but it features classics like Birchermüesli and Avocado with Tomatensalsa, and you can always ask them to make something if it’s reasonable. The service is attentive, making each visit memorable.
And there’s something about the sun spilling indoors that adds a magical touch to the whole experience. Especially now in the winter when it’s cold and gray outside.
Each of these spots offers a unique experience and a fantastic brunch in Zurich.
I hope you get to try and like them too.
